A power management integrated circuit (PMIC) is a general term used to refer to any integrated circuit specifically designed to provide power management for a device or system. A wide variety of power management techniques have been developed to enable modern processors and other logic-based devices to conserve energy and reduce power consumption. A PMIC, also known as a supervisor, is a specific type of IC developed to provide two primary functions: system protection and system power control.The ANALOG DEVICES DS1232LPU/T&R is a low-power, system reset supervisor and power supply supervisor designed to keep microprocessor-based systems in a healthy power state. The device is designed to detect the presence of an optional system power source, an optional battery, or an optional wall adapter power source. In addition, the device provides a reset signal to the microprocessor in order to ensure the system’s operation is always stabilized.The DS1232LPU/T&R supervisor provides three types of output signals:

  • A Reset active low signal to the microcontroller or processor to reset it.
  • A Power Good active low signal to indicate when the power source is below the preset threshold.
  • A VBAT lower than voltage TLOW active high signal to indicate that the battery is too depleted for normal operation.
The DS1232LPU/T&R provides several advantages over other PMICs. It is a single, low-cost, low-power device with a wide input range of operating temperatures and a wide variety of reset delays. Additionally, the system reset circuit eliminates any false reset pauses due to power up/down transients.The DS1232LPU/T&R is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as building energy management systems, automotive and industrial applications, communication systems, and medical devices.   • Excellent system performance with low voltage transition (TLOW) and reset thresholds (THRESH_L)+GND, THRESH_H, THRESH_SL, THRESH_S)
  • Wide input voltage range (2.4V to 5.5V) for system and supply power
  • Wide operating temperature range (-40°C to 85°C) and low power consumption (-40 to +40mA)
  • Robust reset circuit with two separate POR and POR thresholds
  • Preset reset delays of 2.2ms, 5ms, 16ms, 32ms and 110ms (2.2ms, 8.7ms and 72ms is available after power on reset)so that it is suitable for a wide range of applications.
The DS1232LPU/T&R works by monitoring voltage levels and triggering an output signal whenever the voltage falls below a preset threshold. The DS1232LPU/T&Rs reset threshold is adjustable by connecting a capacitor between the THRESH_SL and THRESH_SL pins on the device. This allows the user to precisely set the voltage at which the reset signal is triggered, ensuring that the system is properly reset when the power source fails.The DS1232LPU/T&R also provides a system power good signal (PGD), which is triggered when the power source is greater than the power good trip point. This signal can be used to control system alarms and power supply indicators.
