The DS1233AZ-15+T&R is an 8-bit Supervisory circuit, with integrated voltage/temperature monitoring, power-fail management and battery switching functions. This allows the DS1233AZ-15+T&R to switch from an AC power source to a backup battery source in the event of a power loss. The PFM+ also reduces the amount of current flowing during a power down event due to the low on-resistance nature of the MOSFET transistors used.
The DS1233AZ-15+T&R also incorporates an integrated voltage monitor and temperature monitor, allowing the system design to monitor input voltage and temperature conditions from within the device. The monitor provides an internal signal indicating whether the monitored voltage is within the expected range, and can also provide signal indicating whether or not the internal temperature of the device has exceeded a given threshold. Such signal is used to provide early warning when the supply, system or board temperature is beyond the desired range.
At the same time, the integrated voltage/temperature monitoring of the DS1233AZ-15+T&R allows the processor-controlled system to query the input voltage, temperature or other conditions and make changes at power up, system reset or any other action. This allows the system to anticipate the optimal system operating point and set the appropriate device operating parameters. In addition, the low voltage reset feature can trigger the processor to initiate a safe shutdown if the monitored voltage is below the safe reset threshold.
The DS1233AZ-15+T&R also offers a Bipolar Overhanging Protection (BOP) function to protect the integrated FET from overvoltage conditions. BOP adjusts the voltage level on the FET to protect it from overvoltage conditions with multiple adjustment levels between the minimum and maximum operating voltage. This BOP feature also reduces the risk of uncontrolled supply voltage and increases the stability of the device. In addition, the integrated ESD protection ensures the FET is protected from electrostatic discharges.
The DS1233AZ-15+T&R combines power-fail management, voltage/temperature monitoring, bipolar overhang protection, ESD protection and battery switching functions into a single package. This simplifies the design of automotive, industrial and medical systems, as it eliminates the need for multiple components and reduces system size, cost and complexity.
