DS1251WP-120IND is a highly accurate Real-time Clock (RTC) chip designed to synchronize time and date information over a wide range of frequencies. It is a member of the DS1251 series family of Real-time Clocks by Maxim Integrated and is ideal for battery-powered, non-volatile timekeeping and date applications. This RTC family is designed to greatly simplify, reduce cost, and improve the accuracy of timekeeping applications.Application Field
DS1251WP-120IND RTC is intended for use in a wide range of applications such as telecommunications, networking, automotive, control systems, security systems, gaming, point-of-sale, test and measurement, medical, and aerospace markets. Primarily, it is suitable for timecode transfer and time synchronization, usage where precise time is needed, back up time information and event control.Working Principle
The DS1251WP-120IND RTC internally manages both time and calendar registers. Typically, a 32.768 kHz crystal oscillator provides the most accurate and precise reference for the RTC period. The chip also has an embedded voltage detection circuit to indicate battery status.The 1/2-Second Watchdog oscillator tracks time accurate to the nearest half-second. All programs, addresses, and values stored in the DS1251WP-120IND are non-volatile, thus power-ups will not reset them. It has an automatic power-on reset feature where the device does not require external reset components and can be automatically reset upon supply power-on.The DS1251WP-120IND uses the widely known and accepted IEEE-1212 bus protocol, which services typical bus and register commands. Register write and read are dependent on the write data-in and output clocks.
