The DS14285Q (sometimes referred to as the “Q”) is a real-time clock (RTC) with a quartz oscillator and a battery backup. It was designed by Dallas Semiconductor for applications where accurate timekeeping is important. The first mode is an asynchronous mode, in which the clock is kept in an active and accurate state regardless of the processor’s activity. The second mode is a synchronous mode, in which the clock tracks the processor’s activity and runs at the same speed as the processor.The DS14285Q can provide up to 32bits of alarm resolution, which can be used to provide precise alarms for a variety of applications. It can be programmed to provide alarms for specific times, intervals, or special events. The device also contains a RAM for storing user-defined data.The DS14285Q is designed with built-in fault detection and diagnostics.
