The DS1707EUA PMIC Supervisor is a single power-fail detection and supervisor chip which provides an easy way to monitor the system power in a variety of applications. It has built-in functions to provide system-level protection and additional features to improve system performance. The DS1707EUA also provides a feature-rich set of user-selectable latches and transient protection. This allows designers to easily dial in their desired system behavior to fit their specific applications.
The DS1707EUA envelope detection circuit is the driving force behind this device. It uses a precision comparator to monitor two or three external voltage inputs. If the input voltage drops below a preset threshold, the device signals a power-fail detect. The user can set the time delay before the PWRON output is asserted at either 0.75ms, 1.5ms or 6.0ms. This helps to guarantee sufficient time for the system to enter a safe state before power is cut off. The PWRON output is also used to apply power to the system reset circuit.
The DS1707EUA is capable of detecting undershoots in the supply voltage as well as sudden power supply drops. This is because the comparator\'s output is gated depending on the selected threshold values. The DS1707EUA also features a SUPERVISOR configuration pin, which allows the user to select static or dynamic comparison for the envelope detection circuit. The static mode disables the comparator output when the input voltages are below the preset threshold and enables it when the voltages reach higher than the threshold values. In dynamic mode, the comparator output is continuously enabled regardless of input voltage.
The DS1707EUA also offers a wide range of adjustable thresholds, user-selectable power-fail time delays, and RESET pull-ups to provide solutions for different power-related designs. The device also features a flexible reset timer including a range of short (5-6ms) and long (160-400ms) time delays. The DS1707EUA supports both active-high and active-low reset outputs. This allows the system to be reset either upon a power supply undershoot or a power supply drop. The PWRON output is also robust against powering down false triggers.
The DS1707EUA provides a power fail detection with a wide range of user-selectable features and adjustable thresholds, which allows it to act as a one-stop-shop for PMIC supervisors. Its combination of power fail detection and RESET capabilities make it perfect for applications such as server solutions, robotics, industrial machines and embedded systems. Its user-selectable latches and transient protection also ensure high reliability against power supply drops or undershoots for optimum system performance.
