PMIC - Supervisors: DS1814BR-10/T&R Application Field and Working Principle
PMIC supervisors, such as the Dallas Semiconductor Corporation’s DS1814BR-10/T&R, are integrated circuits (ICs) used to monitor or supervise power supply systems in computers or other electronic systems. The DS1814BR-10/T&R is comprised of two circuits- a voltage supervisor and a reset timer. In Interlock mode, the voltage supervisor enters its active state when the input voltage deviates from the previous voltage by an amount equal to or less than a third predetermined level. Once the voltage deviation is detected, the voltage supervisor will stay in the active state until the input voltage returns to a level within the predefined operating parameters. In almost all cases, the voltage supervisor will assert its active state if the input voltage deviates in either direction from its reference voltage.
In addition to voltage supervision, the DS1814BR-10/T&R also offers a reset timer. This timer can be used to insure the system’s microprocessor has correctly reset in a given amount of time. It is usually used in conjunction with a voltage supervisor. If a voltage supervisor is asserted, the DS1814BR-10/T&R will reset its timer and wait for the microprocessor to perform its reset function. If the timer reaches its predetermined timeout threshold and the microprocessor has not reset the system, the DS1814BR-10/T&R will reset the system using its built-in reset circuitry.
