PMIC - Supervisors are a type of integrated circuit used to protect microcontrollers, memories, I/O pins and other embedded systems from unexpected power-related issues. The DS1819BR-20+T&R system is a type of PMIC-Supervisors designed specifically to offer cost-effective protection from over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature and short-circuit conditions.The DS1819BR-20+T&R system is two-phase power management IC (PMIC-Supervisor) with integrated power, thermal and fault protection circuits. It is designed for 6V-20V operation and consumes low quiescent current typical of 12-20 μA. This IC utilizes advanced fault protection, temperature protection and over-voltage protection (OVP) features with precise voltage and temperature monitor/event detection to protect the power line and other power sensitive components connected to the system.The supervisory circuit allows to monitor the system supply voltage VCC, the temperature sensor and the output voltage. The device provides a wide range of voltage monitoring functions, such as adjustable over-voltage protection, under-voltage protection, and thermal protection. The output enable pins accept an external logic signal to enable the output voltage sequencing. In addition, the device has an external voltage enable pin that can be independently controlled.The DS1819BR-20+T&R application field is mainly in applications where high density protection and low quiescent current consumption are required, such as portable and battery powered data loggers, LED drivers, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth system, as well as automotive application.Under normal conditions, the DS1819BR-20+T&R PMIC-Supervisor will remain in the low-power mode. When an over-voltage, under-voltage, or over-temperature condition occurs, the PMIC-Supervisor will activate its fault-protection circuits to protect the power line and other power sensitive components connected to the system. It will also detect a short circuit event and latch the output enable.During over-voltage protection (OVP), the DS1819BR-20+T&R device will disable the output voltage for voltage levels above an adjustable OVP threshold. The adjustable OVP threshold can be set by the user to select between 6V and 20V. The system will continue to monitor the input voltage and when it drops below the OVP threshold, the IC will release the output voltage enable signal.When an under-voltage condition occurs, the internal under-voltage protection (UVP) circuit will disable the output voltage before it drops below the adjustable UVP threshold. The adjustable UVP threshold is set by the user and can be set between 6V and 20V. In addition, the IC includes a temperature sensor that monitors the temperature of the power rail and triggers a temperature shutdown signal at a preset temperature level.The DS1819BR-20+T&R device has an external voltage enable pin that can be controlled by an external logic signal. The logic signal can be used to enable/disable the output voltage. Furthermore, the logic signal can be used to enable/disable the system from entering the low-power mode.In summary, the DS1819BR-20+T&R is a highly functional, low-power PMIC-Supervisor with an integrated power, thermal and fault protection circuit designed for cost-effective protection from over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature and short-circuit conditions.
