DS1830AS/T&R is a supervisor for SCSI and storage application that is used for systems such as SAN (Storage Area Networks) and NAS (Network-attached Storage).It provides an integrated on-chip solution for automatically triggering reset signals during power-up and power-down, or when power anomalies occur.It can also monitor temperatures and system voltages, and signal reset when a fault condition occurs.The device offers cycle-by-cycle current limiting, foldback current limiting, a soft–start circuit,and an externally programmable power-on reset (POR).This solution is able to reduce external components, cost and overall PCB area.

The working principle of DS1830AS/T&R consists of two stages.The first stage is startup.Delivering its preset overvoltage (OV) and undervoltage (UV) trip levels, the supervisor controls the power-on reset (POR) function,cycling from softstart to foldback current limit.The soft-start feature limits the inrush current to prevent a large inrush current from affecting downstream components.The second stage is shutdown.In shutdown mode, the OV and UV monitor is able to detect power anomalies quickly and accurately.It will immediately trigger a reset signal to ensure system stability.
