The DS28E05P+ is a cryptographic authentication memory device that integrates multiple application uses. Primarily, it is a low cost Secure Authentication device operating on the Dallas I2C 1-Wire® protocol. It is designed to protect sensitive items such as embedded systems and consumer goods. This device provides 256-bit addressable memory for custom data and also contains an additional 1 Kb memory for internal use. This technology allows for secure authentication via a digital private key, aiding in the protection against counterfeiting.
The DS28E05P+ can also be used for data storage and password protection. The device\'s memory can be divided into two separate areas: user nonvolatile (EEPROM) data and on-chip control code. The EEPROM data area can be used to store program code, secret or public flags, or unique identification information. The on-chip control code can be used for authentication operations as well as to store passwords or operational instructions.
In addition to its memory capabilities, the DS28E05P+ contains an Internal EEPROM Authentication circuit and a number of generic nonvolatile 1-Wire instructions. The Internal EEPROM Authentication circuit provides a secure way to authenticate a device using a private key, preventing the contents from being changed without authorization. When the correct code is entered, the device will return the data stored in its EEPROM memory.
The DS28E05P+ also contains a number of 1-Wire instructions which can be used to read, write and modify the data stored in the EEPROM. One of the more important instructions is the Write Paged Instruction, which allows for data to be written to specific addresses within a page. This instruction is used for updating or overwriting data without affecting the other data in that page.
