EA8890 is a highly integrated off-line AC/DC switch mode power supply (SMPS) evaluation board. This evaluation board is designed to facilitate the evaluation of various applications for demanding high performance AC/DC power supplies. The EA8890 contains two components: a DC/DC controller IC and a switching MOSFET.The DC/DC controller IC used in the EA8890 is the TPS54240, an integrated buck regulator providing up to 2A of output current. The TPS54240 is a high-performance switching regulator that combines a voltage-mode buck controller operating at 700 kHz with a dual channel driver capable of operating at up to 500 kHz. The device offers wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 28V, allowing it to accommodate both high and low AC supply voltages. In addition, the controller also feature a programmable frequency, pre-bias startup mode, output voltage tracking and cycle-by-cycle over-current protection.The switching MOSFET used in the EA8890 is the IRF610B, a 200V N-Channel MOSFET optimized for Switching and Resonant applications. This MOSFET has a low RDS(ON) of 0.9mΩ while still having a low Qg at 1.7nC. This allows the EA8890 to have a very low gate charge and switching losses.The EA8890 has various applications in off-line power supplies. It can be used to power LED drivers, smart power management systems and various AC/DC power converters.
