A thyristor is a solid-state semiconductor device, a four-layer, three-terminal device that functions as a switch which can be used for controlling and switching of power. Thyristors can vary in size, shape and type and can be used for many applications. The EC103M1RP is a member of the popular and reliable family of thyristors known as Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCRs). The EC103M1RP is a three-terminal device. It has two Gate terminals and one Anode terminal. When the voltage exceeding the forward breakdown voltage of the SCR is applied across the Gate terminals, a current flows through the Gate and then into the Anode. This current reduces the resistance of the Gate and allows the Anode to receive a current from the source. This current then passes through the SCR to the load, completing the circuit. This current is known as the latching current and is usually between 1A and 10A depending on the model of SCR.

The EC103M1RP is designed specifically for motor control and offers solid-state switching for direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) applications. The low on-state voltage and low on-state resistance make it suitable for applications with power requirements up to 20A. It features an extremely durable mechanical construction and is capable of withstanding high transient voltage and high surge currents.

The EC103M1RP is rated at up to 600V and offers a low on-state voltage (VTM@ITM) of 1.3V at a current of 17A. The maximum usable current that the SCR can handle is 200A with a non-repeating surge rating of 2000A. It also features a zener diode built into Gate-Anode junction for fast response time and good operating temperature range.
