Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in many electronic applications thanks to their various advantages, such as relatively low cost, high capacitance-to-volume ratio, and long life. The aluminium electrolytic capacitor model EKYA250ELL681MJ16S is especially suitable for operations requiring a high energy density, satisfying different power demands such as CPU power, and AC/DC power supply in various electronic circuit designs.
The model EKYA250ELL681MJ16S is a series of screw-mounting snap-in capacitors with a capacitance range of 220 – 270 µF, rated voltage of 250 V, capacitance tolerance of ±20%, and a operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It is capable of self-conductive spark suppression and has an insulation resistance of 3000 MΩ or more. Its size is 27mm in diameter and 43mm in length.
The working principle of aluminium electrolytic capacitors in general is the same. It consists of an aluminium anode covered with an oxide (Al2O3) layer. The oxide layer serves as an insulating layer and also as electrolyte. Between the oxide layer and the aluminium anode is a set of aluminium foil which acts as one of the electric conductors. The second electric conductor involved is an electrolyte solution which is powered by an external DC source. The result is the creation of a layer of ions between the two conductors which cause charges to accumulate at the capacitor\'s terminals.
In the case of the EKYA250ELL681MJ16S, the anode is composed of an electrolytic, selenium-coated aluminium foil. Due to the high charge capacity of the foil, a much higher voltage can be stored than other cap components. The oxide layer present at the surface of the aluminium anode has a special characteristic of allowing electric charge to penetrate through the Al2O3 layer. This allows the capacitance to be higher with much less size than the other capacitors.
