Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, often referred to as electrolytic capacitors, are widely used in power electronics, signal processing, and antenna devices. A non-polarized version of the EKYB160ELL121ME11D electrolytic capacitor is commonly used in embedded circuits. This type of capacitor is ideal for use in high frequency ac and dc applications, such as in switching power supplies, as well as in resonant circuits and filters.

Similar to other types of capacitors, the EKYB160ELL121ME11D uses two plates separated by an insulating medium called the dielectric.
