EL3011

An EL3011 optoisolator is specifically designed to enjoy the features of circuit isolation between input and output to reduce the risks of ground loops, spikes, and unregulated voltage. Apart from EL3011 Triac output optoisolator, the other two popular types of opto-isolators are SCR Output opto-isolator and Triac Output opto-isolator.

The EL3011 Triac Output optoisolator is a passive optical device consisting of an implanted light-emitting diode (LED) and a photosensitive triac (TRIAC). An optocoupler is a device used to transfer electrical signals between circuits, and is one of the most essential parts of a modern electronic circuit. This transfer is done while providing galvanic isolation between the two circuits in order to reduce the risk of ground loops, spikes and unregulated voltage.

The circuit of the Triac Output opto-isolation EL3011 contains the following components: an LED diode, a light-sensitive triac, a DC bias current source, and an AC current sensor. The AC current sensor at the output end will measure the AC current outputs from the TRIAC. Furthermore, it comes with the protection diode, BV (Breakdown Voltage) and Thermal Shut Down (TSD) features, which will shut off the power to the TRIAC if the applied voltage exceeds the breakdown value, while maintaining a safe operating temperature. In addition, the opto-isolator provides excellent protection against EMI (electromagnetic interference).

The Working Principle of the EL3011 opto-isolation is simple yet effective. The EL3011 contains a LED light-sensitive optical sensor that detects the applied external voltage and amplifies it. The amplifier also has a current sensor to detect the internal AC current of the TRIAC and modulate the output voltage according to the corresponding duty cycle. This in turn ensures that the output voltage is maintained at a safe level and prevents any damage caused by overvoltage.
