EL3041M is an optically coupled triac output optocoupler introduced by NEC. This device is a 4-pin SMD transfer-molded type IC which comes with an H series with lead (Pb) free terminals using trimetal-plate. The package type used in the EL3041M optocoupler is the JEDEC SOIC-4L package. The housing material used in the package is UL94V-0 rated thermoplastics.Application Areas
Optoisolators, like the EL3041M, are used in multiple applications including motor control, home appliance products, microcomputer-based equipment, office automation products, machine tool products and factory automation devices. The EL3041M optocoupler should be used in applications where optical isolation is paramount such as power line communication or communication. It features high isolation voltage, high noise immunity and strong EMI immunity. It has a high illuminating efficiency and is ideal for single-ended input applications. The EL3041M optocoupler is used primarily in industrial automation, general-purpose relays, AC/DC drives, temperature control systems, modems, data communication lines, microcomputer systems and control, energy meters, and so on.Features
EL3041M optocoupler uses a floating drive, which can start under zero voltage, and uses a floating output which can drive both AC and DC circuits. This device incorporates an LED with current matching resistors placed in parallel with LED for optimized input current. The EL3041M optocoupler comes with a category temperature range ranging from -40 °C to +105 °C and is available in a 4-pin package with a minimum isolation voltage of 4.7 kVrms. It features a low input current range of 4 mA to 20 mA and a high speed of 0.2 ms propagation delay in triac output. The EL3041M optocoupler is designed to be immuned to Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) and comes with a high CMR min of 7 kVrms. The output voltage is a 15 V device with a very low temperature drift of 0.3 mV/C. The EL3041M optocoupler has an enhanced stand-off voltage of 7.0 V DC isolation voltage and low flux leakage of 350 µW.Working Principle
The functioning of EL3041M optocoupler is based on a light-activated triac-output interface. The device has an LED as an input which emits light when a DC current passes through it. The amount of light emitted is proportional to the input DC current. The triac output is then activated when the light passes through a photosensitive element. The photosensitive element in the EL3041M optocoupler is an optically coupled transistor array. The transistor array senses the intensity of the light and activates the triac output, which then produces a high output voltage. This output voltage is then used to power a load or another circuit.The EL3041M optocoupler is not suitable for applications involving non-light emission sources or motors with high current density. Additionally, it is not suitable for direct connection to the power line, so it needs other interfacing circuits for the intended applications.In summary, the EL3041M optocoupler is a robust and reliable optocoupler that can be used in a variety of applications requiring optical isolation.
