EL3051 Application Field and Working Principle
Introduction
The EL3051 is a advancedelectronic Triac based latching optical isolator with an output SCR for the applications in AC operatedmedical/industrial automation control, lighting and remote control circuits. It has a wide voltage range of 1 to 2.2V that remain stable while providing a standby current of 0.10mA while being activated and in operation. The electrical rating of this opto-isolator is 4A.Application Field
The EL3051 has a broad range of applications in the field of automation control and industrial lighting control. It is suitable for both medical and industrial applications. The optoisolator ensures that current will flow in one direction while maintaining isolation between the two points. Thus, it can be used to control AC or DC voltages in various applications such as controlling light sources, controlling temperature in medical equipment and controlling remote control circuits.Working Principle
The EL3051 optoisolator will work on the principle of a Triac with an output SCR. It involves two principle IC\'s, namely a Triac and a SCR. A Triac is a three-pin power switch that will switch ON or OFF when triggered. The Triac is responsible for driving the current in the circuit. The output SCR is a silicon-controlled rectifier or a thyristor which is triggered by the Triac. The optoisolator will create an electrical isolation barrier between the two points and the SCR will cause a fork of low current to flow across it for the purpose of providing isolation.The current provided by the Triac will pass through an infrared LED. The SCR will be triggered by the Triac when it detects signals from the infrared LED. The Triac will activate the SCR and hence the output current flow in the circuit will increase. The activated SCR will remain in the ON state as long as current flows across it, until it is reset by Triac. The optoisolator will provide protection against short circuit and reverse current.Summary
