This type of terminal block uses a special type of insulation displacement to make the connection between the wire and the contact, which is why it is called a crosswise IDC terminal block. This type of connection provides excellent electrical contact and does not require any soldering or other mechanical connection.

Wire connection is achieved by simply pushing the wire into an insert slot, inserting the wire into the contacts of the terminal block, and then tightening the screws. Usually, two screws are used to hold the wire in place. The screws are tightened using a screwdriver, which exerts torque on the screw, which presses the wire into the contacts of the terminal block. This provides a good electrical connection.

In some cases, ELFR24120 are also used for power applications as they are able to handle higher current levels. They feature an integrated circuit which can handle up to 400A and offers a choice between 1-pole and 2-pole connections. The terminal block also provides a wide range of voltage options ranging from 5V to 500V.
