As for its working principle, the ELG108M100AR2AA is basically composed of two aluminum foils with an oxidized electrolyte gangue in between. This gangue is presumed to be an electric insulator. Three solid electrodes, known as anode, cathode and center tab, are held together at the edge in an arrangement named capacitor lay-out. The function of these electrodes is fairly simple: they allow current to flow respectively in and out of the capacitor.
During the functioning of this capacitor, when placed in a circuit between two terminals A and B, one of the terminals, say B, will be grounded which serve as the reference point. Then electric current will flow into terminal A, accounting for its application. Currently, the current will pass through the oxidized layer and then the cathode, and then leave the capacitor by the anode, eventually reaching the grounded terminal B.
The potential difference between A and B, together with the dielectric strength of the oxidized layer, will determine the amount of current that flow into the capacitor. The surface area of the oxidized layer will determine the capacitance. This is how the ELG108M100AR2AA work to produce capacitance.
