The FAN5078MPX is a highly efficient three-phase synchronous buck converter power management integrated circuit (PMIC). It is designed to provide power conversion and voltage regulation for mobile devices that may require up to 100 Watts. This PMIC can provide up to 5 Amps of output current and can operate over a wide input range. The FAN5078MPX provides a three-phase synchronous buck converter to step down input voltage to a regulated voltage. The converter can be configured for single or dual switch operation and it supports both low input and high input voltage ranges. An optional high PSRR linear post regulator is used to ensure the precision of the output voltage. The high PSRR post regulator also helps to reduce output voltage overshoot caused by output current ripple.The three-phase synchronous buck converter uses three n-type metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) as its switching elements. The three MOSFETs are connected in series and the synchronous controller regulates their operations to achieve the desired output voltage. The gate drive signals to the MOSFETs are generated by an Error Amplifier integrated into the synchronous controller.The high PSRR linear regulator section consists of two main parts: an Opto-Isolator and a Low DropOut (LDO) linear regulator. The Opto-Isolator provides isolation between the control voltage and the input voltage. The output of the Opto Isolator is then connected to the LDO linear regulator. The LDO linear regulator delivers a precisely regulated output voltage with good dynamic performance.The FAN5078MPX also includes a Clock driver and a variety of protection features. The Clock driver has a built-in oscillator which generates a clock cycle that is used by the Controller for timing control.
