FAN5233MTCX voltage regulator is a special purpose regulator specifically designed for micro-motor control applications. It is a dual-output, low-dropout linear regulator with an integrated 5 A current limit and a PMOS output switch. The device provides a better than 4% regulation accuracy over line, load and temperature for the VOUT1 regulator output, with VOUT1 externally adjustable from 0.65V to 7V. The VOUT2 regulator output operates with a noise bypass capacitor, regulating the output voltage to 1.8V with a better than 1% accuracy.The FAN5233MTCX is designed to reduce power consumption of a motor controller’s system by using a low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator with a PMOS switch and current limit. The combination of the FAN5233MTCX device, 2x1mm low-profile QFN package, and low quiescent current makes it the ideal choice for a micro-motor control applications.The device has three operating modes: peak current limit (PCL), current limit (CL), and linear (LDO) modes. When the output current exceeds PCL, the device enters PCL mode and the switch output is disabled. When the output current is below PCL and above CL, the device enters CL mode, and the switch output is enabled and the voltage on the output is regulated. When the output current is below CL, the device enters LDO mode. In LDO mode, the output is regulated to the target voltage and the switch is disabled.The switching speed of the device is determined with a small external capacitor connected to the switched output pin. The peak current limit protection provides protection to the inductor and load when the motor current spikes. The CL voltage is adjustable over a range of 2.5V-7V. This adjustable voltage helps minimize power dissipation in the system and provides additional protection against over-temperature conditions.The current limit on the FAN5233MTCX device is integrated and is adjustable by an internal resistor. The adjustment of the current limit depends on the external components used in the system. When the load capacitance increases, the current limit can exceed 6A. The device also has an OVP pin which enables an external resistor and capacitor to set the voltage level at which the current limit shuts off. The adjustable current limit protects the driver from short circuits and over-current conditions.The FAN5233MTCX device also includes an internal thermal shutdown circuit (TSD) which operates when the junction temperature exceeds 100°C. This TSD feature helps protect the device and the load device in overload conditions. The thermal shutdown circuit also has a de-rating function which reduces the device\'s output switching frequency as the temperature increases.In summary, the FAN5233MTCX is an ideal device for micro-motor control applications.
