The FAN5361UC12X is a step-down DC/DC converter from Fairchild Semiconductor which features adjustable switching, a CCM/DCM compatible PWM control, and is optimized for high current applications. This device is a highly integrated integrated switching regulator for a wide range of applications, such as automotive, industrial, and home electronics.

The FAN5361UC12X is available in a tiny package, offering 2.5mm x 3mm of total solution space. It features integration of two low-on-resistance MOSFETs, dual synchronous rectification MOSFETs, and an adjustable inductor current sensing. It is also configured to provide up to 12V output and has an adjustable output current range of up to 5.5A.

The FAN5361UC12X is designed to operate in both continuous CONVECTIVE MODE and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). It supports a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 28V, and the output voltage can be precisely regulated up to 12V with 0.5% accuracy at full load. The device also features low standby current consumption and high efficiency of up to 97%. Other features include over-voltage protection, over-temperature protection and current folding protection.

The FAN5361UC12X features an input voltage based selection for PWM mode. This allows for selection of the desired PWM frequency for a given application. In continuous CONVECTIVE MODE, the FAN5361UC12X can operate at a fixed frequency of 250 kHz, while in DCM Mode, the FAN5361UC12X can operate up to 1 MHz. The device also includes a low-saturation-voltage, open-drain enable pin which can be used to shut down the device without disabling the input voltage.

The FAN5361UC12X also features an adjustable dead-time control to reduce EMI and improve light load efficiency. Additionally, the device provides a synchronized clock output and a power good flag which can be used to detect indicates when the output voltage is within 0.8V of the programmed value.
