FAN7530M Application Field and Working Principle
Power Factor Correction (PFC) is the process of adjusting the power factor of an electronic application to ensure efficient electrical system performance. PFC consists of compensation circuits, inverters, rectifiers, and other power switching devices capable of quickly and accurately controlling the instantaneous current and voltage drop. FAN7530M is one of the most popular and widely used power factor correction ICs. It has a wide range of applications in LED lighting, adapters and power supplies for household appliances and commercial equipment.The FAN7530M is a PFC controller with a universal 90V-295VAC input voltage range. It includes an analog (MOS) or digital (Microcom) system controller which provides the necessary power conversion and optimization logic. The IC contains both current and voltage loop control circuits and integrated interleaving networks which provide fast and reliable power regulation. The FAN7530M IC is designed to generate steady DC voltage from a given AC input voltage. In the input section, it employs an active rectification network to convert the AC input to a DC bus. After rectification, the output is usually smoothed by an LC filter, which may further minimize the output voltage ripple and reduce the input flux. The output voltage is regulated by a regulator feedback loop. The output voltage is measured at the DC bus; based on the difference between the measured voltage and the reference voltage, a corresponding PWM waveform is generated. With the help of two voltage references (one for current regulation, one for voltage regulation) and hysteresis modulation technique, the current and voltage can be regulated precisely and remain in compliance with various types of power standards, EN 61000-3-2, EN 55022 and GB 10637-2007.For better output ripple suppression, the FAN7530M also provides an optional burst mode operation. This mode maintains low frequency current regulation while efficiently reducing the average current drawn from the input source. As a result, the current drawn from the input source can be kept within the limit specified by the relevant power standard.In addition, the FAN7530M also integrates a start up and protection circuit. During the startup cycles, the IC monitors the status of the MOSFETs, the output voltage and the input voltage. If any of them is out of the normal range, the IC will turn off the system by decreasing all the corresponding power components, such as the main MOSFET and the auxiliary sensing MOSFET.Overall, FAN7530M is designed to provide a simple, flexible and cost-effective solution for PFC applications, such as LED lighting, adapters, and other power supplies for household and commercial equipment.
