The FDC2214RGHT is an integrated capacitive sensing multitouch module perfect for a wide variety of applications ranging from consumer, industrial and medical applications.
The FDC2214RGHT features easy integration, an ultra-low-power design, low electromagnetic interference, wide capacitance measurement range, and a 9-channel capacitive sensing array. It includes the FDC2214 RGHT IC, an analog to digital converter, multiplexer, and connected upper and lower sections.
Application Field & Working Principle
Due to its efficient combining of digital Tx/Rx channels, wide capacitive measurement range, and low electromagnetic interference, the FDC2214RGHT is ideal for use in a variety of capacitive touch sensing and measurement applications. It is a great choice for consumer and medical products and applications, such as motion control, medical access control systems, industrial touchpad applications and more.
Using the FDC2214RGHT capacitive sensing module, the user can achieve accurate measurements with the module\'s self-calibration algorithm, providing an output that is accurate to within 5% of the actual capacitance value. The module supports a wide capacitance measurement range of 0.5pF to 650pF, perfect for a variety of voltage measurements. The device also features an ultra-low-power design, allowing it to run on a low-power supply without negatively impacting battery life.
The FDC2214RGHT module consists of two sets of electrodes arranged in a ‘grid’ form. The upper electrodes are used for capacitive sensing and measurement, while the lower electrodes are used to collect the input signals. During operation, the module alternately charges and discharges the capacitors in the upper grid, finally measuring the capacitance between the two grids. The resulting capacitance value is then converted into an analogue voltage signal, which is then sent back to the microcontroller.
In the event of a user’s finger touching the upper surface of the device, capacitance is transferred from the finger to the electrodes and the capacitance value measured by the module changes. This change in value is then used to detect the touch, allowing the user to interact with the application.
In addition to its use as a capacitive touch sensor, the FDC2214RGHT can also be used as a capacitive displacement measurement tool. This is achieved by varying the capacitance of the upper electrodes, which results in a corresponding change in the capacitance value measured by the module.
