The FOD8321V is an isolator gate driver that is capable of providing high-current gate drive capability for industrial applications such as motor drives, power-supply controllers, and active harmonic filters. It also incorporates a unique isolation feature that allows for safe operation in hazardous and high-noise environments where isolation between the input and output is critical.The FOD8321V is a compact module with an integrated isolator that is capable of driving both P-channel and N-channel MOSFETs and IGBTs with a peak current of ±1.5A. It is rated for an operating temperature range of -40°C to 105°C. The module features an integrated output filter that reduces EMI and RFI noise interference, as well as an overvoltage protection circuit that protects against excessive input voltages. In addition, the module offers an integrated isolation transformer that provides galvanic isolation of up to 2000 volts.The FOD8321V isolator gate driver operates using a high-voltage start-up technique. This technique ensures that the gate voltage is high enough to start the switching process before the main input voltage is applied. The FOD8321V then regulates the output voltage to keep the gate voltage at the desired level. This eliminates the need for an additional soft start circuit.The FOD8321V also utilizes a charge pump driver to reduce the switching losses of MOSFETs and IGBTs. This technology allows for optimal power delivery from the transistor, and dramatically reduces switching losses and power consumption. The output temperature is also dramatically reduced, eliminating the need for external heat-sinking.The FOD8321V has a wide range of applications in industrial systems. It is well-suited for motor drives, power-supply controllers, active harmonic filters, and other high-current, high-voltage applications that require isolation between the input and output. Its small size, integrated isolated transformer, and wide operating temperature range make it ideal for applications in hazardous and high-noise environments.
