An optoisolator, also known as an optocoupler or optical isolator, is an electronic component composed of an LED (light-emitting diode) and a photosensitive device such as a photoresistor, photodiode, or phototransistor. These components are used to allow electrical isolation between two circuits while using a signal. One of the circuits, usually referred to as an input circuit, uses the LED to communicate a signal to the other circuit, usually referred to as an output circuit.
