FODM3012R1

The FODM3012R1 from NVE Corporation is an optoisolator from the Triac, SCR Output family. This family of optoisolators provide a high degree of electrical isolation between the input and output sides while maintaining low power consumption. The FODM3012R1 is an example of a Triac, SCR Output optoisolator which uses an LED as the input side driving element and a triac or SCR on the output side for temperature range control.

The FODM3012R1 is ideal for use in motion control, industrial motor control, lighting control, AC switching, AC motor control, inverters, and high-voltage applications. The LED input side of the isolator is capable of operating over a short circuit, making it suitable for safety applications in areas where insulation can be at risk. The output side of the isolator also has reverse battery and temperature protection features. The triac or SCR output is designed for switching inductive and resistive loads with a peak blocking voltage of up to 400V. The holding current for an SCR output is 0.95A and 1.4A for a triac output.

The working principle behind the FODM3012R1 is based on the electrical relay. When an electrical current is applied to the LED input, it illuminates and creates a light beam which, when detected by the corresponding photodiode, causes a photocurrent. This photocurrent is then amplified in the photoreceiver before being sent back to the output side of the optoisolator. This amplified photoreceiver signal acts as a discrete switch, turning on or off the SCR or TRIAC on the output side depending on the desired application.
