Optoisolators are devices which are designed to provide galvanic isolation between input and output circuits. One of the most common optoisolators is the FODM3053. This device uses a triac as its output element thus allowing bidirectional current flow.

The optoisolator’s basic components include a light-emitting diode (LED) which serves as the input circuit and a triac, which is the output circuit. The light emitted by the LED is modulated by the input logic signals and is detected by the triac.
