Working Principle

The GIB1404-E3/81 is a single diode rectifier. It is a rapid-recovery-type diode with ultra-fast switching times and low forward voltage drop. When a forward bias voltage is applied to the diode, electrons from the n-type material cross the depletion region and current flows from anode to cathode. As the voltage increases across the diode, the depletion region width increases and the current decreases.

When the applied voltage is reversed, the depletion region quickly dissipates and the electrons are ejected from the anode to the cathode, allowing current to flow reversely and creating a “reverse bias”. The number of electrons ejected is indeterminate, but the more electrons that are ejected, the better the switching characteristics of the diode.

The GIB1404-E3/81 has a very low forward voltage drop, typically 0.7V, which contributes to its high efficiency and low power losses. This makes it an excellent choice for applications that require low power dissipation and high efficiency.
