The GKN71/04 is a type of single rectifier diode that belongs to a vast family of two lead, semiconductor-based devices designed to convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) or to carry out other rectification-related activities. As one of the most widely used components in the electronics industry, GKN71/04 has a variety of applications and a relatively simple working principle.
Applications
Being a general-purpose diode, GKN71/04 can be utilized as a rectifier, as an electromechanical relay replacement, as an isolator, as an electrostatic shield isolator, as a surge limiter or for a host of other uses. Working Principle
GKN71/04 diodes generally rely on semiconductor-based technology to perform rectification tasks. In this, the diodes act as one-way electrical valves. When the anode is positively charged, the device allows current to flow through the circuit, and when the anode is negatively charged, it does not. The current flow is registered as a voltage drop on the device, regardless of its direction.This voltage drop is known as the forward voltage drop of the diode. Generally, this level is relatively small – less than 1 volt – and allows a steady current to flow through the device, even if the voltage is cycled and varied.
Finally, GKN71/04 rectifier diodes finds favor in many types of capacitor smoothing. Since the device can pass AC and DC but not the other direction, it is able to filter out the unwanted noise and keep the steady current flow on the right path.
