Gas Discharge Tube Arresters (GDT) belong to a range of surge protection devices (SPDs) designed to protect electrical equipment from transients generated by lightning and switching operations. GDTs are an improvement over the concept of upstream lightning arresters as they provide higher protection from high current events of longer duration. GTCA38-231M-R10-FT is one such model in the GDT family; it is suitable for applications that require protection from fast transient overvoltage events. The key components of GTCA38-231M-R10-FT are a gas-filled spark gap, an inductive coil and a telecommunications PTC thermistor.

The spark gap used in GTCA38-231M-R10-FT is the essential device for protection.
