The HCNR200#050 optoisolator, also known as a transistor, photovoltaic output optoisolator, is an electromechanical device designed to transfer information from low voltage to high voltage without direct electrical contact between the two circuits. The HCNR200#050 optoisolator works by using a low-voltage logic input to control a high active drive output. This happens by using an LED which is photovoltaically isolated from the input. When the LED is activated, it produces light which is detected by a photodiode on the other side of the device. The photodiode then produces an electrical current, which results in the activation of the output transistor. It essentially acts as a one-way switch with the input as the control signal and the output as an amplified version of the input signal. The output voltage and current are also proportional to the intensity of the output LED, which can be controlled with the input voltage. In the HCNR200#050 optoisolator, the LED can handle input voltages between 3 and 30V with a maximum of 30V peak. The output transistor is rated at up to 48V peak at 1A.
