The HEF4066BP,652 is an integrated circuit from the family of analog switches, multiplexers, demultiplexers. This chip is designed and built for a wide range of general- and special-purpose applications, providing fast switching between two control ares without crossover distortion.
The HEF4066BP,652 consists of four independent, monolithic CMOS gates. Each gate includes a set of N- and P-type switch transistors (Field-Effect Transistors, or FETs) that can be used with a single supply voltage, dual supply voltage, or three different supply voltage configurations. The internal logic structure is compatible with either 5V or 3V logic, in addition to that, each gate features an open-collector “contactor” that can be used to drive external power MOSFETs. By providing logic level compatibility and control of external power MOSFETs, the device can be used for fast switching of multiple levels of power, and hence is employed in many high-power applications such as automotive, industrial and telecom related industries.
The HEF4066BP,652 operates on a wide range of voltages and frequencies, being able to handle frequencies from a few Hertz up to 100MHz. Each of the four upstream switches is designed to accept switch control signals from digital logic and provide very low ground-bounce and high-frequency transient performance.
The basic working principle of the device is that when a logic HIGH voltage is applied to the control pin, the associated FET gate turns ON, and when a logic LOW voltage is applied, the switch is OFF. When the switch is turned ON, current is allowed to flow through the gate and the associated MOSFET, thereby connecting one control lead to the other, forming a closed contact. The resistance of the switch, when ON, is typically very low and hence there is very little power loss in the connection, even at high frequencies.
