The HMC5846LS6TR RF Amplifier is an advanced integrated signal processor designed to allow system designers to perform high efficiency frequency multiplier, voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) up-conversion and digital pre-distortion (DPD) calibration. The integrated RF signal processor contains a multiplier core which can perform up to four multi-channel functions at high speed with high resolution and low latency. Additionally the integrated processor includes a serial digital gain compensation loop to ensure accuracy of the process results.
The high level of integration of the HMC5846LS6TR RF amplifier simplifies the building of any communications system. It can be used in frequency conversion, VCO upconversion, DPD calibration and other RF signal processing applications. This RF amplifier has a wide operating temperature range from -40 °C to +85°C which enables it to be used in harsh environments and provides greater reliability under extreme conditions. The HMC5846LS6TR also supports a wide range of frequencies, up to 20 GHz.
The HMC5846LS6TR RF amplifier is easy to integrate into existing systems due to its highly modular nature. Its small footprint and low power consumption in addition to high-speed integration make it very suitable for integration into RF systems with a minimum of external components. The HMC5846LS6TR is a self-contained compact RF amplifier solution and it provides a digital control interface for easy configuration.
The HMC5846LS6TR is a hybrid integrated device with separate sections that can be used for different functions. The input section of the amplifier includes two low noise amplifiers (LNAs), a mixer, and a differential input port for external coupling which provides better impedance matching for higher order harmonics. The output section is comprised of a power amplifier and a power monitor which can be used to control the output power level. A programmable gain control loop is integrated in the output section and allows for gain adjustment of the amplifier. The digital control of the programmable gain control loop is through a serial register interface. The output section also provides a DC offset monitor which can be used to compensate for thermal drift.
The HMC5846LS6TR offers advanced digital signal processing support for high speed applications. It has the ability to perform high speed sample rate conversion, frequency upconversion, and perform digital predistortion (DPD) calibration. The integrated signal processor can also perform power management, harmonic calibration and other signal processing functions. The integrated processor contains a multiplier core which can perform up to four functions at high speed with high resolution and low latency.
