RF switches are an important component in many wireless applications. RF switches are used to enable and disable the signal path between two antennas, in order to control the transmission and reception of signals. HMC986A-SX is a RF switch with a wide range of applications.
The HMC986A-SX is based on a reflective PIN diode switching technique, which provides low insertion loss, fast switching speed, high isolation and low power consumption. It is capable of operating in frequency range of DC to 12 GHz and achieve 1 dB insertion loss. It supports circuits such as multi-band antenna switching, router networks and channel hopping multi-channel receivers. The device is operated by remote control and has a lower power consumption.
Additionally, this HMC986A-SX can also be used as an RF relay, allowing for the switching of a RF signal between two ports with high isolation. The working principle of the HMC986A-SX is based on a reflective PIN diode switching technique. In this case, a PIN diode is used to reflect or pass an incoming signal. When the PIN diode is forward biased, the signal is allowed to pass. Conversely, when the PIN diode is reverse biased, the signal is blocked. In order to control the forward/reverse biased state of the PIN diode, a voltage is applied to the PIN diode. This voltage is supplied from the external voltage control line, which is connected to the external control circuit. When voltage is applied to the voltage control line, it will cause a change in the internal bias settings of the PIN diode, which in turn controls the reflectivity of the PIN diode. This change in reflectivity can be used to switch the RF signal between the two ports of the switch.
The HMC986A-SX is an ideal solution for wireless applications requiring fast switching and high isolation. It is also suitable for antenna switching, router networks, TDD systems and channel switching applications.
