An aluminum electrolytic capacitor, also known as a power capacitor or electrolytic capacitor, is an electrochemical arrangement of two electrodes and an aluminum oxide dielectric. This combination of materials forms a capacitor with a very high capacitance and is a well-known electronic component widely used for filtering, power regulation, and signal coupling applications. The working principle of this capacitor is based on an electrochemical double layer that forms when two aluminum surfaces are immersed in an organic liquid electrolyte. This electrolyte from the chemical reaction forms a thin oxide layer on the aluminum surfaces. When a voltage is applied to the positive and negative electrodes of the capacitor, the oxide dielectric maintains a difference between the two electric fields, thus acquiring a capacitive value which determines the capacitance of the device.
