The ICL7129ACPL+2 is a special purpose analog-to-digital converter and digital-to-analog converter manufactured by Intersil Corporation. It is a highly integrated device featuring a 16-bit dual row converter with both analog and digital input and output functionalities. The device can be used to interface analog signals to microprocessors, as well as to provide various types of data acquisition functions such as A/D or D/A conversion. This device offers users high performance, accuracy, and wide range of applications. This device provides users with an overall resolution of 16 bits with a single conversion rate of 16ksps. It has differential inputs, allowing the user to be able to measure differential signals up to a range of 11.6V. The accuracy of the device is maintained with low offset, gain, and linearity errors and operation at a wide input range of 0V to 11.6V. A temperature range of -40°C to +85°C allows the device to be used in extreme conditions.The ICL7129ACPL+2 can be used in a variety of applications, including data acquisition, industrial process control, weighing systems, and motion control. It can also be used in motor control, and machine vision applications. Additionally, the device is also used to measure temperatures, pressures, and other environmental parameters.In terms of how it works, the ICL7129ACPL+2 containsa successive approximation register (SAR) and an error amplifier. The SAR operates by comparing the analog input voltage with a reference voltage, and then stores the result in the internal shift register. This shift register is then loaded into the error amplifier and the output is adjusted until the error amplifier reaches zero, indicating that the analog input is in line with the reference voltage. This process is repeated until the 16-bit resolution accuracy is reached. The ICL7129ACPL+2 also includes a self-calibration feature that allows the device to continuously monitor the performance of the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and adjusts it dynamically to maintain optimal performance. This allows the device to perform in a highly accurate way despite fluctuations in environmental conditions and aging of the chip itself.
