The ICS650R-11I is a clock generator and Phase Locked Loop (PLL) synthesizer device used for various applications that require high precision for frequency generation and control. The ICS650R-11I integrated circuit family is the world’s first to integrate both clock generator and PLL synthesizer functions into a single package. This makes the device ideal for applications where space and power are limited, yet precise frequency control is required.
The ICS650R-11I operates using a low jitter Ring Oscillator (RO) as the clock reference source, coupled with a patented Integrated Circuit (IC) architecture to eliminate cross talk between the clock generator and synthesizing functions. This clock generator and PLL synthesizer feature low power consumption and a low noise envelope, making it suitable for use in dense and mission-critical applications.
The ICS650R-11I clock generator and PLL synthesizer can accurately generate and control frequencies from 25 to thousands of hertz, from kilohertz to megahertz, and all the way up to gigahertz. It has been designed to meet the rigorous requirements of modern radio communication systems, digital signal processing, factory automation and process control, IEEE-1394ynchronous bus standards, and digital broadcast applications.
At the heart of the ICS650R-11I is a low-noise, low-jitter clock reference source, which uses a thermal compensation circuit to maintain accuracy over a wide temperature range. The clock reference is then used to drive the Synthesizer Logic Controller (SLC), which oversees the PLL synthesizer operation. This enables the ICS650R-11I to produce highly accurate and stable clock outputs over a wide range of frequencies, from 25 to 5.4 GHz.
The ICS650R-11I is optimized for features such as power-down mode, input multiplexer, phase-locked loop architecture, and other features to selectively split a single frequency across multiple outputs. These features reduce the power dissipation associated with the use of external voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) or frequency dividers for frequency synthesis. The ICS650R-11I also features a fast settling time, glitch-free frequency transitions, and programmable RING OSC Filter Compensation.
