The ICS671M-03I is a low jitter, fan-out clock generator designed to provide multiple clock outputs from a single reference frequency. This family of clock generators can accurately replicate multiple clock frequencies with minimal change in duty cycle (phase noise) at frequencies between 156 to 400 MHz. This simplicity and accuracy in clocking options makes the ICS671M-03I a viable option for any frequency-scaling system within the range.
The ICS671M-03I features an in-built fractional-N frequency synthesizer, allowing for highly accurate clock generation at frequencies between 156 and 400 MHz using a single reference frequency. The frequency synthesizer works by combining the high resolution tuning of the on-board digital spread spectrum (DSS) algorithm with the on-board VCO divider. This results in a clock with minimal phase jitter and excellent phase noise performance over a broad range.
The various phase-locked-loops (PLLs) of the ICS671M-03I are designed to capture, filter and store the exact frequency of an input reference clock. This input signal is used to generate the output clock signals with an adjustable phase and frequency. Additionally, the PLLs contain a fast transient-recovery circuit that quickly monitors and adjusts the reference signal to keep output clocks in phase with the input signal in the event of signal drift or a jump in frequency.
The ICS671M- 03I is used in many different clock-dependant systems such as digital cameras, digital video recorders, digital signal processors and microprocessors. It is also used in a variety of communication systems such as cellular telephones and satellite digital broadcasting. In these systems, the ICS671M-03I is used as a source for multiple baseband and system clocks, often integrated with complimentary low noise clock buffers.
Its key feature is the ability to provide symmetry PECL level clocks with resolutions of less than 10ps between 156 MHz to 400MHz at a voltage of 3.3 or 2.5V.
