IDT2309-1HDC8 is a highly accurate, low power CMOS, frequency synthesizer developed by Integrated Device Technology, Inc. The device combines a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), dual Loop Filter (LPF) and a phase-locked loop (PLL). By operating in dual loop configuration, IDT2309-1HDC8 allows the frequency to be adjusted accurately and quickly. The device is suitable for frequency synthesis applications such as clock recovery, communications, and timing systems.This frequency synthesizer works by modulating the phase difference between the input clock signal and the phase detector output. The phase detector compares the phase difference between the input clock signal and the output of the VCO and produces a voltage proportional to the phase difference. The output of the phase detector is fed to a loop filter which is used to control the tuning voltage of the VCO. The VCO produces frequencies from hundreds of kHz to several GHz depending on the external components connected to it. The VCO is sensitive to temperature and is usually corrected with the help of a temperature-compensated VCO (TCVCO). IDT2309-1HDC8 also includes a dual loop configuration that can be used to reduce undesirable subharmonic suppression products. The device includes a programmable loop filter and a crystal oscillator. The loop filter is used to maintain a high degree of linearity while the crystal oscillator is used as a reference clock.
