Optoisolators - Transistor, Photovoltaic Output
Optoisolators are an important component for electrical systems, as they provide isolation between circuits. ILD66-2 is a type of Optoisolator which uses a transistor and photovoltaic output. In this article we will discuss the application field and working principle of ILD66-2.The ILD66-2 is an optically coupled integrated circuit device which consists of an input terminal, a transistor and a photovoltaic output. It is used in applications that require high voltage isolation between circuits. The device is suitable for use in industrial, medical, instrumentation and automation applications.The ILD66-2 has two operating modes; switch mode and linear mode. In switch mode, the transistor is used to switch the output between high and low levels. In linear mode, the output voltage is proportional to the input voltage. The ILD66-2 is capable of being driven either through an AC or DC supply, making it a versatile device.The ILD66-2 has an optical input and a separate electrical input. The optical input consists of two LED’s in close proximity and the electrical input consists of two input terminals. The optical input is subjected to an ‘optical modulator’ which modulates the light intensity and controls the transistor base current. The electrical input controls the transistor through the two input terminals which vary the voltage.The ILD66-2 is capable of responding to both DC and AC signals. When a DC input is applied, the device switches between a ‘saturated’ and a ‘non-saturated’ state depending upon the input voltage. For an AC input, the output of the device is modulated so as to produce a DC voltage at the output. This modulated output is referred to as a ‘transistor current source’.The photovoltaic output of the ILD66-2 consists of two outputs; one positive and one negative. The positive output is connected to the collector terminal of the transistor, while the negative output is connected to the emitter terminal of the transistor. The collector and emitter terminals are separated from each other by a series of isolators.The ILD66-2 is a high voltage isolation device which provides high levels of protection for electrical circuits. The device is suitable for applications like power supplies, data and signal processing, industrial controllers and telecommunication systems.
