IR3087MPBF is a highly integrated power factor correction (PFC) controller providing current-mode control of a PFC Boost converter. It features Power Factor (PF) and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) measurement, and provides accurate control of the primary current while stabilizing the voltage and current loop. Its features enable the IR3087MPBF to provide a wide range of control options that also improve the PFC circuit efficiency.
The IR3087MPBF includes an 8-bit internal DAC that allows the output voltage and current to be programmed for both continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) operations. In addition, the PFC controller has an independently programmable voltage wide range (VPN +5V to +10V) and current wide range (IPN +2.5A to +4A) for power factor correction, which provides flexibility and accuracy for the system designer. In addition, the controller has several protection features including peak current limit (COC), undershoot protection (USP), overvoltage protection (OVP) and over-current protection (OCP).
The IR3087MPBF works on a basic principle of increasing the voltage and current of an AC source to generate an effective DC source, and decreasing the AC source voltage and current to reduce the DC source voltage and current so as to achieve the desired power flow. The main function of the PFC controller is to measure the input and output current of a power regulation system and adjust the amount of current entering the system according to the demand of load. This is done by regulating the output voltage and current to maintain an optimal voltage and current. As a result, the power factor of the system will be improved and the system efficiency will be enhanced. The IR3087MPBFhas some additional input protection features such as a current sense comparator, which protects the system from over-current, under-voltage, over-voltage and peak current overloads.
The IR3087MPBF is generally used in applications such as Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) systems and Boost converters for DC/DC converters.
