The electric field must be created to the threshold level of the diode rectifier for conduction to take place. The wider the gap between the terminals, the higher the threshold level and the lower the current flow.
In order to control the current flow, the IRKE71/12A uses a resistor. The resistor acts as a bridge between the terminals of the diode rectifier and the load.
