It has two electrical connection points; the Anode and a Combination Anode/Gate point, which allows the four individual SCRs of the module to be connected in parallel. This module also provides isolation between the Anode and Gate, eliminating the need for additional insulation components such as fuses, relays, and contactors in certain types of applications.

The working principle of the IRKT71/06A is that it turns ON in response to a sudden increase in voltage across its Cathode and Anode. A positive Gate current will turn ON the SCR, and then the SCR will remain ON until the voltage across the Cathode and Anode is reduced to zero or below, or the Gate current is reduced to zero or less. Once the SCR is ON, the load connected to the Anode and Cathode will remain ON until the voltage or Gate current is reduced to zero.
