Working Principle

IS45S16320F-7CTLA1-TR is a high performance, low-power device, employing a simple architecture with several new and innovative features. It consists of a 16Mbit variable latency page mode dynamic random access memory (SDRAM) array and a clock controlled data output driver. The SDRAM array is composed of 16 banks (8 bits wide each) and a maximum of 2048 rows and 64 columns. Each bank is divided into eight 64Kb blocks. It has a variable latency page mode, allowing for a wide range of data access times.

The device provides a clock output for external logic, allowing the device to be asynchronous to the system clock and providing more flexibility in system design. The device also has an integrated high speed pipelined sense amplifier, providing excellent signal integrity and low-power operation. The data output pins are controlled by the clock input, allowing them to be switched off while the memory is idle to reduce the operating power.

The device interfaces to a host processor via direct or indirect control. Direct control is enabled by the Direct Memory Access (DMA) facility. Indirect control is provided via the use of a bus mastering controller. The device has an SRAM assisted self-refresh mode, which reduces the operating power by turning off the system clock and placing the device in a self-refresh state with no clock activity on the pins.
