ISL62392HRTZ Application Field and Working PrinciplePMIC, or power management integrated circuit, are a type of electronic circuit used to manage the power in a system. One of these is the ISL62392HRTZ, a dual output step-down controller for DC / DC converter that provides multiple output voltages and has a wide operating range. The ISL62392HRTZ is a compact, low-cost, multi-output synchronous buck controller powered by vin from 8V to 32V and provides two output voltages from 0.8V to 21V with a programmable smart load switch. It features a digital (PMBus) interface for remote sequencing, sequencing, tracking, and safe-start. It also has adjustable loop compensation and remote control of soft start, UVLO and margins via PMBus. It is designed to reduce board-space, cost and time-to-market in cost-sensitive applications such as networking and cloud computing. This controller is well-suited for distributed power applications as it has two independantly adjustable regulators with addition of one extra input and output. One of the regulators can be used to power one set of subsystems, while the other regulator powers a different subset. The adjustable settings in multiple sources make it the perfect choice for applications with varying output voltage requirements. The ISL62392HRTZ is based on Intersil’s precise and reliable proprietary circuitry, which includes an advanced current-mode PWM controller with true dual-output capability. It utilizes an advanced digital control loop to provide precise output voltage accuracy, transient response and very low output ripple noise. The ISL62392HRTZ has various operating modes such as light-load skip, discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), active-frequency dithering, spread spectrum and other features for improved efficiency over the entire output range, from no-load to full-load. It also features an integrated soft start, output fault protection, fast line/load transient recovery and under voltage lockouts, as well as ±0.5% output tolerance and programmable EMI filtering. In summary, the ISL62392HRTZ is a cost-effective, multi-output synchronization buck controller which is ideal for distributed power applications with multiple, adjustable outputs. It provides precise output voltage accuracy, transient response, and very low output ripple noise. It is also suitable for applications with a wide input voltage range, such as networking and cloud computing.
