ISL6255AHRZ-T Application Field and Working PrincipleThe ISL6255AHRZ-T is a monolithic high voltage power device which can be used as a power converter, battery charger, and step-up unregulated DC/DC converter in multiple applications. This device is one of the members of the Intersil’s ISL6255 family, which has been designed with the utmost integration of advanced power conversion topology and exceptional high switching frequency. Featuring a wide input operating voltage range and a high integration level, the ISL6255AHRZ-T has effectively improved the current monitoring resolution of up to 1mA which is suitable for multiple applications.The ISL6255AHRZ-T can be used in the field of PMIC-Battery charges. It is the first product in the market to promote the combination Benefits of Power Management, Battery Charging, and Step-up DC/DC Converter under one integrated device. With the advanced high performance of such a comprehensive device, users can enjoy the improved versatility and enhance the power flexibility of any battery powered system. Using the innovative technology of Intersil’s Dual Sync Adaptive Frequency Synchronization, this device offers an alternative solution with high efficiency, which makes it suitable for the new generation of portable applications. The ISL6255AHRZ-T consists of an onboard controller, a power switch, a power amplifier, and an auto-tracking compensation circuit. It also consists of an internal synchronization circuit, current-sense comparators, charging buffer, which enables higher efficiency and faster time to full charge for any battery configuration. The controlling circuit of the ISL6255AHRZ-T drives the power switch oscillating at the preferred switching frequency (12kHz to 1MHz) while automatically calculating the feedback compensation to ensure stable operation without any phase-lag. When the external voltage sensing is inactive, the device is designed to operate as a battery charger. When the external voltage is detected and activated, the device operates as a buck/boost type of DC/DC converter. It is capable of supplying a regulated output voltage at either the same or opposite polarity as the input voltage, based on a user-programmable threshold voltage. The ISL6255AHRZ-T has a high switching frequency feature, enabling a lightweight and small solution size due to the reduced inductor and capacitor sizes. The current-sense threshold is adjustable via the IREF pin on the device and can be set from 0.1mA to 10mA, with a resolution of 1mA. It also features soft-start, short-circuit protection with adjustable hysterisis, auto operating in forced continuous mode, and the ability to dynamically adjust the regulation accuracy via its compensation pin if required. The ISL6255AHRZ-T is ideal for providing a high level of integration, flexibility, and improved efficiency when converting current in a battery powered system. It is highly suitable for usage in communication, automotive, and other applications that require highly optimized power consumption and charging performance.
