Analog Devices, Inc.’s ISL6439IR offers an advanced, provides dual low-side buck-boost switching controller. It is designed to ensure high delivery efficiency in applications such as Automotive and Industrial solutions. It has also been used in applications such as LED lighting, consumer electronics, portable devices, power supplies and motor controllers. The ISL6439IR provides a compact solution for fast-transient and highly efficient power-supply designs. This Integrated circuit (IC) is part of the PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Controllers family.

ISL6439IR works according to on-board digital-signal transition logic. The quiescent supply current is under 100uA at light-load conditions and can manage up to 35W load power. The device drives two PWM outputs to deliver the power, with an internal Voltage Detector that helps to control the switch openings of the DCDC channels. The low-side mosfets are driven according to their temperature, while the external resistor sets the PWM period.

The ISL6439IR also has an integral input driver capable of driving signals across its 27V supply voltage range. It has a programmable output pre-driver with an integrated current-limit function, enabling the pre-driver to protect itself and the external power MOSFETs from continuous conduction. In addition, the device includes protection features such as over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage, thermal shutdown and open-sense protection.

Also, ISL6439IR has an integrated high-side gate driver for improved efficiency and reliability, which helps to reduce noise and reduce power loss. The device can operate from an input current of 4mA to 150mA, providing selectable output voltage from 5V to 99V. The digital output enables multi-rail current sensing and allows for cycle-by-cycle current limit and maximum operating current.

ISL6439IR contains two separate high-side drivers, each capable of driving a single low-side mosfet with a maximum load current of 2.5A. The pre-driver can be configured to provide both free-floating and push-pull drive modes, allowing for greater flexibility and maximum efficiency. The integrated loop compensation can support multiple output capacitance values, allowing for greater system flexibility and reduced board design cycle time.

The ISL6439IR also has several other features, such as output voltage point synchronization, soft-start, and independent double-inverse PWM operation. In addition, the device incorporates an OVP/UVP watching system with adjustable hysteresis for improved protection and a programmable output pre-driver for reduced power consumption.
