ISL6552CBZA is a DC-DC switching controller, which is used for generating a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal for controlling the switching power supplies, such as front-end boost, flyback, and SEPIC converters. Device ISL6552CBZA is a current-mode control and circuit with low-voltage, step-down and step-up applications by connecting an external power transistor, current sensing resistor and an inductor.

Working Principle

The operating principle of ISL6552CBZA works on the basis of current-mode control topology. A current sensing resistor is connected in between the input voltage Vin and output voltage Vout. When the input voltage rises, the output voltage will remain at the same value, while the current flowing through the current sense resistor will increase, providing a proportional increase in the current flowing through the low-side power MOSFET driven by the ISL6552CBZA chip.The ISL6552CBZA controller uses the voltage control feedback to regulate the output voltage. The voltage is compared with the voltage reference channel in the ISL6552CBZA. If difference exists, the ISL6552CBZA chip drives the error amplifier and fixes the current loop output to compensate the error, thus maintaining the output voltage.In addition to regulated voltage output, the ISL6552CBZA chip also offers various protection features like over-current protection, over-voltage protection and thermal shutdown. This chip is capable of generating higher efficiency and better output voltage regulation than the voltage feedback control method.This chip is designed with a BiCMOS process, which makes its structure both cost- and power-efficient, since it is capable of providing a high frequency switching performance with low input voltage. Furthermore, the chip requires a low external component count, making it easier to integrate into compact and portable systems.
