The ISL8844AMBZ-T power management integrated circuit (PMIC) is a high performance offline switcher. Featuring a patented MultiTOPology topology, it can operate either in constant frequency (average) current mode (CCM) or critical conduction mode (DCM) to optimize efficiency and minimize the solution size. The integrated controller and fully synchronous power stage provide robust fault protection, improved electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance, and excellent efficiency across a wide range of load conditions. This IC offers internal power MOSFETs, switching frequency up to 500kHz, easy synchronizing of an external motherboard, and accurate voltage and current programming.Application Field The ISL8844AMBZ-T is suitable for a broad range of appliations requiring offline supply voltages including power supplies for computers, printers and other consumer and industrial electronics. It is also ideal for stand-alone adapters and chargers and provides an excellent high performance solution for comercial and industrial applications.Working PrincipleThe ISL8844AMBZ-T IC utilizes a high speed heavy counterpart MOSFET, and is featured with a patented MultiTOPology topology. This topology ensures the efficient usage of the power MOSFET,m minimizes the size of the solutions along with optimizes the performance. The same MultiTOPology topology assists in providing the dedicated fault protection and a tight output regulation as well. The IC uses internal regulated current mode feedback by monitoring the output voltage and feeding back the voltage control loop. It is capable of operating in either constant frequency (Average) mode (CCM) or critical conduction mode (DCM). This enables optimized efficiency and heatsink sharing. The IC’s excellent efficiency is maintained across a wide range of load conditions and changes the switchover mode automatically. The IC features adaptive auto-skip-cycle with overload protection to provide constant current for small loads. It also provides comprehensive protection features like UVLO, hiccup current limit, overtemperature protection, and automatic recovery from fault. The ISL8844AMBZ-T IC is fully synchronized with an external clock and it can be synchronized with a PWM signal to reduce EMI.
