ISL91302BIIZ-T is a 3A non-synchronous buck regulator from Intersil Corporation, a leader in various power technology solutions. This family of DC-DC converters combines excellent performance, minimum external components and simple internal circuit design thereby making it easy for designers to implement zero standby power solutions. This regulator is also ideal for energy scrounge applications and can operate on input voltages as low as 0.8V, which makes it perfect for very low power consumption requirements. The ISL91302BIIZ-T is a DC-DC switching regulator, which uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to regulate the output voltage in order to regulate output current. It is capable of operating in both buck and boost modes and can be configured as either a synchronous or a non-synchronous converter. The primary function of the ISL91302BIIZ-T is to convert a relatively high DC voltage into a relatively lower DC voltage. This is achieved by using a high speed MOSFET which is constantly switched on and off to regulate the output voltage. This switching is done very quickly and hence does not produce any visible frequency or ripple on the output voltage. The process of switching is controlled by the regulator itself and hence requires no external support.The ISL91302BIIZ-T is configured to operate in Buck mode and one of the primary features of this regulator is its excellent efficiency. This regulator has a typical efficiency of 94-97% and thus reduces the chances of power losses due to heat generation. The switching frequency used by the ISL91302BIIZ-T is between 200kHz and 1000kHz and hence it can support very high load current while maintaining excellent efficiency and low output ripple. The ISL91302BIIZ-T is well suited for a wide range of applications like industrial, automotive and electric vehicles. It is designed to be used in applications where a wide supply range is required, as well as high current load, high efficiency and high external component count.
